Have you ever felt that you’d be happy when you______ (insert: get that promotion, lose that extra weight, go on that overseas trip, find the love of you life or become wealthy)?
I know I have. I was a classic sufferer of the virus “I’ll be happy when…”
I used to rely on winning in sport, landing a great job, being in a relationship (even though it was an unhappy one) to feel happy and fulfilled within myself. But it turned out to be a journey full of frustration and disappointment. I learnt the valuable lesson that shifting your mindset to one of internal fulfilment will ultimately lead to even more happiness and success.
A quote that really struck a chord with me was from an unexpected source, the movie Cool Runnings – “A gold medal is a wonderful thing – but if you’re not enough without it, you’ll never be enough with it.”
To me this means that you need to have a profound sense of self-worth and love to be truly fulfilled and happy. Achievement for the sole purpose of fulfilment and happiness is a never-ending journey, a journey fraught with disappointment and frustration.
In 2015, I felt privileged to witness an inspiring Aussie Legend Nick Vujicic address the audience at a conference in Sydney. For those of you who don’t know Nick – he’s is an Australian presenter and author born without arms or legs. He travels the world inspiring school children and adults alike to love and accept themselves. He is very passionate about talking to people about creating happiness by looking within.
If Nick can do it, you can do it. No excuses. If you want to make a positive change and be happy start coming up with all the reasons you can, do and will create a life of fulfilment and happiness
The secret is to look within yourself for fulfilment and happiness. Because until you are happy with who you are and feel like you are a worthwhile person you will continue to chase happiness, you will continue to be disappointed and frustrated. Remember happiness is found in the journey not the destination.
Don’t delay your happiness any longer – create it now!
“When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It’s to enjoy each step along the way.” – Wayne Dyer
Remember – YOU have the power to steer your own course in life.
